Cop martyred while defusing landmine in Sohbatpur.

DERA MURAD JAMALI -- A Head Constable of Special Branch Bomb Disposal Squad embraced martyrdom when he was defusing landmines planted by unknown armed men in Sohbatpur area on Wednesday.

Police said they had received information about planting of landmines by unknown armed men in Sohbatpur, adding, a team of Special Branch Bomb Disposal Squad was dispatched to defuse the landmines.

"Punhal Khan, the personnel of Bomb Disposal Squad was assigned the task to defuse landmines along Pat Feeder Canal to carry out act of terrorism," the police said.

"After defusing the first landmine, Khan was defusing another landmine which exploded, leaving him critically injured," Police added.

The injured succumbed to injuries on his way to hospital. The law enforcement agencies had cordoned off the entire area to trace the suspects. Further probe was underway.
