Cop car smashed up while officer on a job.

A POLICE car was put out of service after it was attacked by vandals.

An officer had been helping a young family following a report of an attempted burglary in Lozells, at 5pm on Sunday.

He returned an hour later to find someone had attacked the vehicle.

The windscreen was smashed and wing mirror damaged. The panda car was put out of service just as police needed to attend another emergency call.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "An unattended police car parked in Malthouse Gardens, Lozells, on Sunday was vandalised while an officer was visiting a home to investigate an attempted burglary.

"The investigating officer, left the car just after 5pm on Sunday. When they returned to the car just before 6pm, they found that the windscreen and wing mirror of the police car had been smashed, leaving the car undriveable."

Bordesley Green WMP tweeted: "Colleagues from Nechells dealing with a crucial incident today returned to find their vehicle windscreen smashed. Not good as they needed to get to another urgent incident. Any witnesses urged to call 101. Vehicle was no longer driveable due to damage caused. Please help to identify who was responsible for this. Officers were trying to help a young family at the time."
