Coors to expand Memphis plant for increased Zima production.

Coors Brewing Co. is expanding its Memphis Brewery to accommodate increased production of Zima Clearmalt, the company's clear, adult alcohol beverage that is being brewed and packaged solely at the Memphis plant.

The $20 million expansion, approved by the Coors board of directors on January 4, will be completed in July.

As part of the expansion, a filler, new labeler and packer will be added to the Memphis Brewery's Bottle Line No. 3.

It will be a convertible, or "flex line" able to convert to bottle sizes from 7-ounce to 40-ounce.

By July 1, Bottle Line No. 1 will be built. Its primary use will be for Zima, but it can also handle any of Coors' 12-ounce bottle products.

Additional production equipment needed to support the roll out of Zima will be operational by April 1.

"We're excited about the expansions at the Memphis Brewery," said Don Brown, vice president and manager of the Memphis plant.

"In addition to the increased production capacity, we will be adding more than 50 production workers to our existing staff, and we're looking forward to adding more production workers as demand for our products continue to show strong growth."
