Coors reports sales up in first.

Coors Brewing Co. said beer sales for the first quarter ended March 21 were 3,742,000 barrels, a 4.1 percent increase over the 3,596,000 barrels sold at the same time last year.

In a press release, the company said its sales increase "does not necessarily reflect changes in market conditions from the prior year." Reported unit volume figures represent Coors Brewing sales to wholesalers.

The company said removals are a better measure. Coors' removal fell about 2 percent from last year's same quarter, "in line with expected industry results."

The company emphasized that sales volumes of Coors Brewing do not necessarily indicate the parent's financial performance. Coors said it will report earnings in mid-April.
