Coors launches import division with Lion Nathan.

The Coors Brewing Co. has announced the formation of Unibev Ltd., a new arm of its International Import Division, with a stated mission to "develop and implement strategies to increase Coors' share of the U.S. import and specialty beer market."

The company reported that it has signed a joint venture agreement with New Zealand's Lion Nathan in the U.S. Coors and Lion Nathan will each own 50 percent of the venture, with operating costs and revenues to be shared equally.

According to Coors officials, Unibev will provide Coors with an umbrella organization to market specialty and import brands in the U.S.

Lion Nathan's Castlemaine XXXX will be launched in 49 states and the District of Columbia, and will be marketed through the Coors distributor network.
