Cooper opens expanded emergency department.

Cooper University Health Care has opened a 5,500-square-foot addition to its emergency department in its main hospital in Camden featuring 10 examining rooms.Cooper University Health Care has opened a 5,500-square-foot addition to its emergency department in its main hospital in Camden featuring 10 examining rooms.

The emergency department offers 24-hour access to cardiology, surgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, urology and social service assistance. Cooper's emergency department is also the only hospital in southern New Jersey that provides a dedicated pediatric emergency room staffed with board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians.

Visits to the hospital's emergency departments grew to 78,912 in 2017 from 58,500 in 2009.

"Cooper has one of the busiest emergency departments in the region as the only Level 1 Trauma Center in South Jersey," saidKevin O'Dowd, co-president of Cooper University Health Care, in a statement.
