Cooking with the movies; meals on reels.

Chiffolo, Anthony F. and Rayner W. Hesse.

Greenwood Press

277 pages

Film and food aficionados Chiffolo, an author and editor of books on food and religion, and Hesse, an Episcopal priest who co-wrote a book on biblical meals with Chiffolo, recreate meals from 14 films--Babette's Feast, Big Night, Chocolat, Goodfellas, Tampopo, Titanic, Tortilla Soup, Like Water for Chocolate, Dinner Rush, What's Cooking, Gosford Park, Once Upon a Time...When We Were Colored, Mostly Martha, and Waitress. Organized by film release date, each chapter includes an introduction to the film and its culinary highlights, a synopsis (including spoiler alerts), brief notes about the film's cast and awards, menus, recipes, and a b&w photo of each dish. The authors developed the majority of the 200+ recipes from scratch by watching the movies repeatedly and based on their cooking expertise. If a recipe is not original and their own work, it is so noted.
