Coogan's brilliant run; PHILOMENA 12A.

Steve Coogan is probably best known for his brilliant Alan Partridge creation. And inspired though that failed presenter is, he is just the tip of Coogan's talents.

He's long since proved to be much more than a one-trick pony with memorable performances in diverse films.

But this heart-tugging drama, based on actual events, may just turn out to be his finest hour.

Coogan not only stars as the journalist at the core of the story, he also has credits as screenwriter and producer. It is obvious how much he cares about the moving tale of a retired Irish woman (Judi Dench) trying to find the son who, 50 years earlier, was taken from her and put up for adoption.

It is a fascinating and involving story that serves as a fitting platform for its two stars.
