Convergence Communications, Inc. (CCI), a pan-regional facilities-based operator of broadband telecommunications networks in Latin America, announced today that it has named Douglas K. Jacobs as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. He replaces Lance D'Ambrosio, who remains Chairman of CCI.

Doug joins CCI from Alcatel (NYSE:ALA), where he served as Senior Vice President and Area 8 President of Alcatel USA, heading an area with annual sales in excess $4 billion and over 3,000 employees covering the US, Canada, Mexico and Japan. With the addition of Doug to lead our team, we have completed that process."

Mr. D'Ambrosio continued, "Doug brings more than 30 years of experience in telecommunications sales and marketing, as well as hands-on knowledge of today's leading technology, which will allow the company to maintain its leadership role. Doug is a results-oriented leader who has proven his ability to drive sales in a highly competitive environment."

Doug Jacobs said, "I am very pleased to join Convergence Communications and to be part of a team that is a market leader building the first pan-regional, 'pure-IP' network in Latin America. CCI is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the combination of deregulating markets and explosive growth in data and Internet traffic. I am very excited to lead the company toward its vision of being the leading provider of broadband services in Latin America."

In addition to Mr. Jacobs the following people have joined CCI during 2000:
