The existence of a strongly interdisciplinary community devoted to nonlinear thermoelastic theories for twinning and phase transitions in crystalline materials prompted the authors to organize this survey of the subject. Touching on crystallography, bifurcation theory, Landau theory, and variational calculus, the main focus is on thermoelastic constitutive equations for crystalline solids in small, but finite deformations. The consequences of the invariance of those equations is explored. The book is intended as a training tool for readers approaching the topic for the first time and as a reference volume for those active in the field.
