Constellation Energy's Calvert Cliffs' Unit 2 Refueling Outage Complete.

BALTIMORE, April 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Constellation Energy today announced that the refueling outage on Unit 2 of its Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Lusby, Md. was completed at approximately 3:18 p.m., April 2, 2007. The outage duration was approximately 33 days, 18 hrs, and five minutes.

In addition to standard refueling activities, plant staff replaced and inspected systems and equipment as a proactive measure to ensure continued equipment reliability through the remainder of Unit 2's operating license, which expires in 2036. Equipment enhancements included the replacement of Unit 2's reactor vessel head (RVH), as well as, upgrades to the containment sump, main condenser and circulating water systems. The plant staff also performed reactor coolant system inspection and maintenance. During Calvert Cliffs' 2006 refueling outage, the site undertook similar equipment maintenance and upgrades on Unit 1.

"The completion of these equipment upgrades on both our operating units is an investment in generation reliability, as well as part of our commitment to safe operation," said Jim Spina, vice president of Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. "More than six years of in-depth planning and preparation went into this effort. It is a milestone achievement for the site, and I am extremely pleased by how well the site performed the scope and significance of work involved."

Since Unit 2's previous refueling in 2005, the unit has produced an energy equivalent of 703 days at full power and operated at a capacity factor of approximately 99.6%, representing a new record in energy output for an operating cycle at Calvert Cliffs.

Constellation Energy owns and operates the Calvert Cliffs facility. The output of electricity from the site's two operating units is enough to meet the needs of more than a half-million homes, or about 20 percent of all Maryland residents. In 2000, Calvert Cliffs became the first nuclear power plant in the nation to earn extended licenses from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission - through 2034 for Unit 1 and through 2036 for Unit 2.

Constellation Energy (, a FORTUNE 200 company with 2006 revenues of $19.3 billion, is the nation's largest competitive supplier of electricity to large commercial and industrial customers and the nation's largest wholesale power seller. Constellation Energy also manages fuels and energy services on behalf of energy intensive industries and utilities. It owns a diversified fleet of 78 generating units located throughout the United States, totaling approximately 8,700 megawatts of generating capacity. The company delivers electricity and natural gas through the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), its regulated utility in Central Maryland.
