Congress rubbishes BJP's allegations on PM.
Defending the Prime Minister, Congress spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit said the allegation made against Singh is entirely baseless and incorrect, asking BJP to explain if they had any pressure when they had put forward the same proposal to allow foreign direct investment in retail sector in 2002.
"This issue that there is some American pressure on the Prime Minister, I think, is completely baseless. Prime Minister does what he is convinced about. As far as American pressure is concerned, I think then BJP should let us know that why is it that they started looking at FDI in multi-brand retail way back in 2002, what was the pressure on them? This is completely baseless charge and BJP just wants to discredit Prime Minister by getting up the US bogey," Dikshit told reporters here.
Echoing similar views, another Congress spokesperson, Renuka Chaudhary, said the decision to allow FDI in retail was taken for national benefit and to embolden country's economy.
"We take up the steps, which are in the benefit of the country. We have made the base for them by taking two-three steps, as you have seen. We are trying to keep everybody together and we will sacrifice if required, so that we have a bright future," said Chaudhary. ( ANI )
