Congress party issues gag order to outspoken office bearers.
New Delhi Miffed by the controversies its office bearers have been generating, the ruling Congress Party has come out with a gag order, asking office bearers to restrict themselves to their own areas of responsibilities.
"Restrict yourself to your area of responsibility and do not speak out of turn," says the written directive issued by party general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi, who is also Chairman of the party's media department.
The gag order virtually means that only the panel of spokespersons is now entitled to speak to the news media, while other office bearers have to restrict themselves to, at best, speaking about the work assigned to them.
All party general secretaries, secretaries and members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) are in-charge for various states or departments and cells within the party.
It is not yet clear if the gagging order also applies to general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is officially in charge for only the youth and student wings of the party.
He, however, does not mind expressing his mind over any issue during his interactions with the media.
In all, the Congress party has nine general secretaries and 39 secretaries while eight senior leaders are holding independent charge of various states.
