Congregational exercise programs--Part IV.

Don't let your congregation's resolutions to exercise more and eat healthier start waning--here's good news that will keep them going.

The January 2008 issue of the journal Public Library of Science Medicine reports that people who engage in just four healthy behaviors--eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day, drinking moderately, not smoking, and getting some physical activity daily live 14 years longer, on average, than people who don't have these habits. The social support found through involvement in a faith community makes this setting an ideal place for offering ongoing exercise programs. So don't stop now; tell your congregations they have 14 years longer to live for!!
