Business Editors, Health & Medical Writers

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.--(BW HealthWire)--Aug. 17, 2001

Virginia Beach-based conference promotes scientific studies

on mental ability to heal the physical body

Call it "the power of positive thinking", "the placebo affect" or "mind over matter".

Either way, scientists have long suspected the healing power of the mind, but have yet to produce evidence. Now, following years of extensive research, a team of eminent medical and scientific experts present documentary proof that the mind does in fact play a significant role in overcoming physical illness. A four-day conference, November 1-4, 2001, themed "Your 21st Century Self - A New Model in Science and Practice" will detail the results of their exhaustive research. The conference will be held at the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.(R)) in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The conference will present evidence supportive of the role of the mind in healing, the concept of genetic determinism, holistic nursing, healing prayer, accessing your ability to self-heal, the impact of the arts on the immune system and the future of modern medicine based on the readings of Edgar Cayce.

Keynote speakers include:

--Dr. Larry Dossey, M.D., author, former chief of staff for

Medical City Dallas Hospital, co-founder of the Dallas

Diagnostic Association, and world lecturer with speaking credits

including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Cornell and the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Dossey also served on Hilary Clinton's Task Force on Health

Care Reform in 1993.

--Barbara Dossey, RN, M.S., HNC, FAAN, author of Florence

Nightingale: Mystic, Visionary and Healer and a trailblazer in

the field of holistic nursing.

--Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., cellular biologist, former associate

professor of anatomy at the University of Wisconsin's School of

Medicine and a current fellow pathology student at Stanford

University's School of Medicine.

--Judith Orloff, M.D., a board-certified psychiatrist, assistant

professor of psychiatry at UCLA and author of The Second Sight.

--Stephan Schwartz, a research associate of the Cognitive Sciences

Laboratory of the Laboratories for Fundamental Research, and

publisher of a daily international electronic research

newsletter, The Schwartzreport.

Belief in "Power of Positive Thinking" Garners National Attention

Long known and embraced by Eastern practitioners, the theory of "mind power" or the "inner pharmacy" originally propounded by A.R.E. founder Edgar Cayce, has transitioned into mainstream medicine in America. No longer regarded as simply a "new age" philosophy, today scientific as well as consumer news sources such as WebMD, CNN and MSNBC frequently report the positive implications of research studies focusing on natural therapies. In addition, over 60% of U.S. medical schools now offer courses addressing alternatives to conventional medicine.

The conference is sponsored by four divisions of the A.R.E., including Atlantic University, the Meridian Institute, the Health, Rejuvenation and Research Center (HRRC) and the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy.

Conference prices are $325 for members and $360 for non-members with registration preceding September 1. After September 1, fees are $350 for members and $400 for non-members and $365 for members and $420 for non-members after October1. Continuing education credits are available for health professionals.
