Condoms for free.

Young people in Northumberland are to be given free condoms in a bid to promote safe sexual health.

The C Card allows people under the age of 25 to get condoms at 73 outlets throughout the county, including GP's surgeries, health centres and housing projects.

A launch event will be held on Valentine's Day to mark the start of National Contraception awareness week at the Holiday Inn, Seaton Burn. For more information call (0800) 511111.

Solving crime

SENIOR police officers are holding a public meeting next week to discuss crime problems.

Gateshead Superintendent Alan Curry will be answering questions from residents at Chopwell Community Centre on February 22 at 7pm.

Glass festival

A MAJOR glass festival is being held in Sunderland.

The National Glass Centre in Sunderland will be exhibiting Brilliant ( a display of new lighting forms and technologies featuring artists from around the world.

Half-term fun

FOR half-term, families in the West End of Newcastle have been invited to a Fun Day on Tuesday.

A range of activities will be available for children from 10am-3pm ( including arts and crafts, dance demonstrations and henna painting.

Cars seized

POLICE officers in County Durham have seized 20 uninsured cars as part of a long-running initiative to combat low-level crime.

The 20 cars were removed from the Stanley area during a two-day blitz.

They are being held at garages and owners must produce proof of insurance and pay a fine to get them back.
