Condi as you never knew her.
Professor Gilbert was my dissertation advisor at GSIS and having run into Condoleezza Rice many a time in Ben Cherrington Hall, I could not claim to have known her well, even though I knew her father, the late John Rice, fairly well.
Therefore, Alan's article was not only informative to those who only knew Condi as a brilliant student of Soviet politics but also an important contribution to the history and psychology of decision-makers such as Condi. Alan's article was able to capture Condi in all her panache, complexity and contradictions as well as how she was shaped ultimately by her years at Denver University.
While she has been written about exhaustively, none equal the knowledge and skill that Alan, a scholar-activist and one of the most prominent social-political theorists of his generation, brought to the article. To him and New African, I am grateful.
