Concert funds to help Jonny's charity appeal.

A concert hopes to hit the right note to help raise funds for research into a crippling illness.

The event at Newcastle University's King's Hall, on Saturday, is in aid of the Jonny Kennedy memorial appeal, which supports the charity DebRA.

Jonny, from Alnwick, touched millions of hearts when he appeared in Channel 4's documentary The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off.

Jonny suffered from the skin cancer Epidermolysis Bullosa, and viewers saw him use his humour to cope with the illness, which ultimately claimed his life in 2004 at the age of 36.

The Backworth Male Voice Choir and 60 members of the Leidertafel Harmonie of Hamburg will hold the concert, which also includes soloist Graeme Danby.

Monies raised will go towards the pounds 1m Jonny Kennedy appeal, which will aid DebRA to hopefully find a cure or effective treatments for the presently incurable skin disorder.
