Comshare Applications CAPITALIZE ON Microsoft Technology; Comshare Management Planning and Control Software for Microsoft SQL Server 7 Unveiled at Comdex '98.

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1998--Comshare(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:CSRE), a leading supplier of enterprise budgeting and financial consolidation and reporting software applications, is demonstrating two of its market-leading offerings at Comdex '98.

Both Comshare BudgetPLUS(TM), a truly scalable solution for enterprise-wide budgeting on SQL Server 7.0, and Comshare DecisionWeb(TM), an open building environment for financial analytic applications on Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services, will be demonstrated in the Microsoft Partner Pavilion.

Open Architecture is Key to Customers' Desires

Comshare supports the key processes that CFOs require: planning and budgeting, and financial consolidation and reporting. "Building our applications on top of some of the most technically advanced and most widely accepted database technology is an important benefit to our customers," says Brian Hartlen, Vice President of Product Marketing for Comshare. "It means users can concentrate on getting the application they need to run the business, while IT departments know it's based on technology they already trust!"

Comshare provides the most comprehensive solutions for SQL Server 7.0 available today. In a separate announcement today, Comshare unveiled BudgetPLUS for SQL Server 7.0 (see News Release "Comshare Previews SQL Server 7.0-Based Budgeting Application at Comdex '98"). In addition, Comshare's open building environment extensively supports Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services. Two examples of such support include Microsoft's most recently announced features, data attributes and write-back. "We're pleased to have worked so closely with Comshare on this project, and are excited about their immediate support of write-back in OLAP Services," says Andrew Hoover, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing Group Industry Marketing Manager for Microsoft Corp. "By developing their applications on Microsoft SQL Server and OLAP Services, they will provide their customers with faster response times and lower overall cost of ownership."

Comshare is the first member of Microsoft's Data Warehouse Alliance designated as an Analytic Applications Vendor. "Consumers are looking for a simple, open, low cost platform to implement data warehouses and best-of-breed applications to plug into these data warehouses," continues Hoover. "Where other vendors choose to create applications based on closed architectures and databases, the combination of the Microsoft platform and Comshare's application expertise will provide the best-of-breed packaged application solutions consumers need."
