Composites certification program hits 1000 mark. (In Brief).
The first training program for composites manufacturing reached a milestone by certifying its one-thousandth person in May. The Certified Composites Technician (CCT) program, created in 1999 by the Composites Fabricators Association (CFA), Arlington, Va., provides uniform training in technical skills necessary for open-mold composites manufacturing and also provides an industry standard for production techniques. CCT candidates can order the study guide and study on their own, or they may sign up for a CCT course with an authorized CCT instructor. The CCT study guide covers such topics as materials, gelcoat application, open-mold laminating techniques, controlled spraying, equipment, safety, and quality assurance. CFA offers several certification programs including CCT-Marine, CCT-Instructor, CCT-Cast Polymer, and CCM (Certified Composites Manager). A program for boat repair is in development. CFA will soon change its name to the American Composites Manufacturers Association. Tel: (703) 525-0511, www.cfa-hq.o rg
