Complementary Elections to be Held in only 23 Councils.

RAMALLAH, November 10, 2012 (WAFA) -- Complementary elections planned for November 24 will be held in 23 local councils out of 67 where elections were not held on October 20, the president of the Central Elections Commission Hanna Nasser said Saturday.

He said at a press conference in Ramallah that 24 local councils will not conduct elections because only one list was submitted and therefore it won by default.

Another 20 local councils will not hold elections because no lists were submitted and therefore local councils will be appointed by the minister of local government.

The number of women candidates exceeded 26% of the total number of candidates, which amounts to 853; including 224 women.

Over 60,000 people have registered to vote on November 24, said Nasser.
