Compass to manage, lease 54-story Equitable Center.

Compass Management and Leasing's New York regional office has been appointed exclusive property manager and leasing agent for Equitable Center, The Equitable's corporate headquarters, the company announced. Totaling over 3 million square feet, the two towers comprising the complex--the 54-story Equitable Tower and 38-story Paine Webber Building in midtown Manhattan - will become the largest components of Compass - New York's growing portfolio.

Equitable Center pioneered the development of the West Side when it was completed in 1985. Since then, the 50-foot, arched windows in the building's crown have become well-recognized points on the New York skyline. The Center houses extensive public space and art work by worldfamous artists Roy Lichtenstein, Sol LeWitt and Thomas Hart Benton, and Scott Burton, along with three of New York's most acclaimed restaurants - Le Bernardin, Palio and Mariel Hemingway's Sam's. Along with The Equitable, tenants include First National Bank of Chicago, Ernst & Young, Banque Pribas, and others. The Paine Webber Building at 1285 Avenue of the Americans was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and completed in 1961. The building is the headquarters of Paine Webber; BBDO; and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & venture between The Equitable and the U.S. real estate subsidiary of Nippon Life.
