Etihad said at the Farnborough Airshow it was buying 25 Airbus wide-body A350 aircraft, 10 A380 superjumbos and 20 single-aisle A320 planes in a transaction worth USD$11 billion at list prices. Etihad's orders included 10 Airbus A380 superjumbos as well as other mid-sized and short-haul jets from Airbus and Boeing. Emirates of neighboring Dubai is already the largest customer for the 525-seat A380, reflecting the Gulf's growing importance as a commercial airlines hub and plans to boost the region as a tourist destination. 7/15/2008

Etihad Airways announced an order for 45 Boeing aircraft worth $9 billion at list prices on Monday, banking on increased investment and an aggressive tourism push in the United Arab Emirates to justify its hefty purchase. The deal signed at the Farnborough International Airshow outside London comprises 35 Boeing 787 aircraft and 10 Boeing 777-300ER. Etihad, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is also placing options for another 25 Boeing 787s and 10 Boeing 777s and has purchase rights for 10 more Boeing 787s and five Boeing 777s. Deliveries of the aircraft will begin in 2011 and be completed in 2020. 7/14/2008
GE Aviation said Monday that it had booked almost $1.9 billion in new orders, at Farnborough Air Show, directly and through its partnerships. Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, ordered 10 Boeing 777s to be delivered in 2011 - all to be equipped with GE-90 engines worth $500 million. 7/15/2008
