Community Based Awareness Raising and Behavioral Change to Reduce Malaria Burden in Amhara National Regional State of Ethiopia.

Goal: Contribute to increased use of quality health services

Objectives: Increase appropriate health behaviors related to malaria by 30 percent from the baseline by 2016 in targeted five districts of Amhara region.

Description: This community based awareness and behavioral change activity is designed to increase appropriate health behaviors and reduce the malaria burden in Amhara Region. The expected primary beneficiaries are school and faith based organizations in West Gojam and South Gondar zones of Amhara Region with the whole communities as secondary targets. The strategy is to train, mobilize and use school and faith based organizations to significantly improve the community s knowledge, attitude and practices related to malaria prevention and control.

Expected Results:

*Increased knowledge, attitude and practice of the target population by 30 percent on malaria prevention and control by 2016

*Fostered participation of school community in 125 schools and 125 faith-based organizations in community mobilization and information dissemination to improve use of malaria prevention services

*Strengthened capacity of school and faith-based organizations to conduct malaria social and behavior change communication

Public Results :

*25 schools and 25 faith based organizations enrolled in Bahir Dar district for malaria communication

*Trained more than 950 individuals on malaria communication

*Distributed 20,000 leaflets and 1,000 posters with malaria key messages
