Commission on National Community Service.

The new Commission on National and Community Service is currently drafting rules and regulations for apportioning funds among the 50 states, nation's colleges and Indian tribes.

Authorized by Congress in 1990, Public Law 101-610 will fund in-school, college and conservation-type programs to encourage the young of this country to volunteer their services. They are to work with at-risk youth, the aging or disabled, conservation and erosion projects and problems associated with low economic neighborhoods. Corporations and senior citizens are urged to help.

Most of the first year $73 million will be funded through state plans, currently being organized across the country in the governors' offices, or the state departments of education. Colleges and Indian tribes can apply directly to the commission. Look to the Federal Register in mid-November for details.

The commission is looking for a permanent executive director to come on board Januaru 1, 1992. Applicants with a history of involvement with the young, or work in depreseed areas and with non-profit groups are urged to apply to Search Committee Chairman George Romney, P.O. Box 33119, Washington, D.C. 20033 oo19 director, who Milton, executive director, whose term expires at the end of this year.
