Opera finishes 2015 season with comedy

JUNCTION CITY - Cascadia Concert Opera's last performance for 2015 will be "La Serva Padrona," an Italian comic opera by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi - but sung in English.

It will be presented at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Helen Catholic Church, 1350 W. Sixth Ave.

Performers include Brooke Cagno as Serpina, Sandy Naishtat as Uberto and Roy Lisi as Vespone. Olga Aynvarg will be accompanying the singers on piano.

The troupe is a seasonal production company featuring professional singers who donate their expertise, time and energy to bring a quality opera experience to places where it might not be expected.

Suggested admission is $10. More information is available, at cascadiaconcertopera.org.

Quintet plays first concert of season

The Asculta! Woodwind Quintet's new season opens with a concert called "Favorites No. 1: Belgium and France."

Feature is Concerto for Woodwind Quintet by Belgian composer Josej Jongen. The piece is a favorite of flutist Meghan Naxer.

It will be augmented by works by Jacques Ibert, Alec Wilder and Franois-Joseph Gossec. At concert's end, the audience will be given a taste of things to come at the quintet's next concert in January.

The group specializes in new music, commissioned or otherwise.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at Emerald Community Fellowship, 631 E. 19th Ave. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for college students and senior citizens, and free for children through high school.
