Comfortable victory for Charnwood Rutland Warriors over Essex Open; NETBALL.

CHARNWOOD Rutland Warriors travelled down to London this weekend to play Essex Open in their bid to stay top of National Premier Division Three.

Warriors started the first quarter strongly with sharp and structured attacking play which meant they had the lead 9-3. However Essex Open didn't give up, their defensive pressure meant they managed a run of 5 goals towards the end of the quarter. But Warriors managed to halt this run and take a one goal lead into the first break 12-11.

In the second quarter the attacking end started to settle which meant Warriors could extend there lead by scoring 7 unanswered goals. Warriors changed the defensive circle with Melissa Oakman going to the bench, Michelle Magee moving to GK and Corey McGlynn coming onto the court at WD. As a unit they were able to achieve many turnovers and Ellie Gallacher and Brittany Coleman in the shooting circle were able to convert them ending the quarter 30-22 ahead. Essex Open continued to challenge Warriors in the third quarter however the team remain composed and confident scoring 6 goals without a reply. Changes for Warriors meant Katie Welsh came onto the court at WA, Lucy Alexander moved to C and Oakman went back to GK. However Warriors new combinations worked well in this quarter and were able to further extend their lead 28-50.

In the final quarter Abi Hymas came off the court and Magee took her place at GD, Coleman also replaced Gallacher at GS, Alexander moved to GA and Jaydene Robinson came back on at C. These tactical changes meant Warriors could continue to apply their defensive pressure throughout the court allowing them to achieve multiple turnovers and run out comfortable 64-38. Player of the match was named as Brittany Coleman.

Warriors next match is Sunday, November 24, at home against Eclipse Netball Club at Brooksby Sport Centre as they aim to stay top of National Premier Division Three.
