Comedian's gigs blow after theft.
A TEESSIDE comedian has been forced to cancel his upcoming gigs after thieves stole his top-ofthe-range sound equipment from his car.
Freddie Waters said he is "disgusted" after an amplifier desk, microphone and minidisc player were stolen from his Mercedes C Class car.
The car was parked in Baysdale Close in Guisborough and the equipment was in the boot of the car.
Mr Waters, a comedy vocal entertainer, said he has had to cancel some of his gigs due to the theft.
He said: "I couldn't believe it. The stuff is worth about PS600. I have a smaller amplifier but it is not powerful enough for me to use at my gigs.
"I thought it was a safe place round there, I didn't expect this to happen. I'm disgusted by it."
Mr Waters, 68, from Marton, said the car was not locked at the time because the remote on the car keys was not working.
He said: "I was due to get a new one.
"I parked the car outside my girlfriend's house and I had taken some of the lighter equipment out. I moved the amplifier into the boot - I thought it was a safe area. I never thought someone would do that."
Police are investigating the theft.
The Carlsbro Power Mixer amplifier is a rare gun metal blue colour. It was stored in a brown Krups case which was about three feel tall.
The radio microphone was stored in a black case with Shure written on it in white lettering.
The silver Sony minidisc player was inside a silver case. Five or six minidiscs were also taken.
Mr Waters, who previously served in the Army and was known as a boxer on Teesside, is appealing to anyone who has seen the equipment to contact police.
He said: "It is going to be costly to replace. I just hope I can get it back."
The theft happened in the early hours of Monday, April 21.
Anyone who may have information regarding the theft or anyone who may have been offered the items for sale is asked to contact PC Danielle Dixon on the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
