Come to winter walks; Fastnews.

Byline: Staff reporter

Ramblers in the Stirling area are inviting locals to join them on their annual festival of winter walks.

During The Ramblers' yearly event, the Stirling, Falkirk and District branch will be hositing two events - tomorrow (Thursday) and on Sunday, January 7. The walk tomorrow (Thursday) is a six-mile ramble Torwood Mysteries, starting at 10am from the layby on A9 at Torwood (postcode FK5 4SL) with walk leader Janet McNee 01324 872205 or 07929 130582.

Then on January 7, the 71/2-mile walk Cambusbarron, Swanswater and Tinkers Loan meets at 10.30am at Linden Avenue Car Park, Stirling and 11am at starting point at Cambusbarron Community Centre. Leader is Ray Finlay 01786 449135 or 07792 549363.

Paths can be muddy so please wear appropriate footwear (preferably walking boots) and bring a morning snack and a packed lunch.

Branch treasurer Margaret Cook said: "Winter is a wonderful time to get outdoors and enjoy your surroundings in the fresh air and the Festival of Winter Walks offers an easy way to head out for a winter wander with friends and family.

"And if you feel like you've over indulged on turkey and mince pies, it's a great way to help you kick start those New Year fitness resolutions too. Who knows, what starts out as a one-off Christmas or New Year walk could lead to life-long friendships and a serious walking habit."

All group walks during the Festival of Winter Walks are free to attend.
