Comcast Commits to Launch STARZ! in Philadelphia; More Than 300,000 Comcast Customers Will See STARZ! by October 1

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. ("Comcast") signed a 10-year agreement to launch STARZ!, the premium movie service from Encore Media Group ("EMG"), to more than 300,000 basic customers in the fourth largest market, Philadelphia, and other selected areas of Pennsylvania and New Jersey by October 1.

Encore, which already is carried on Comcast systems in Philadelphia, Willow Grove, Lower Merion, Burlington and Gloucester, will be added to the Central/Hightstown system by October 1 and to the Trenton system as soon as channel space permits. Both Encore and STARZ! will be available in Comcast's other premium packages or together as their own package. Pricing for the services will be determined by the system.

"STARZ! and Encore are innovative networks designed to appeal to customers at a time when the premium category has struggled," said Tom Baxter, President of Comcast. "We expect our customers will embrace these new additions to our systems and appreciate their value both individually and as part of our premium packages."

"This agreement represents a major step forward in our relationship with Comcast in some of its largest markets," said Que Spaulding, Senior Vice President of Sales & Affiliate Marketing. "We are certain Comcast customers will appreciate our high-quality theatrical exclusives on STARZ! plus all-time favorite movies on Encore. We anticipate great success with Comcast in these and other markets as our relationship continues to grow."

STARZ! is the first-run premium movie service from EMG, offering first-run exclusive movies from Universal, Miramax, Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, New Line Features, Imagine Entertainment and Turner Pictures, among other leading distributors. Subscribers to STARZ! this year will see exclusive premieres of many 1996 Hollywood hits, including "The Rock," "Ransom," "The Nutty Professor" and "Phenomenon." Encore brings back hit movies from the '60s to the '90s at an affordable price.

EMG is the largest provider of cable and satellite-delivered premium movie networks in the United States, currently counting more than 38 million pay units through its ownership of 11 domestic networks.
