Colquitt Regional Medical Center: Moultrie, Ga.

Submitted by: TMPartners PLLC Brentwood, Tern.

For more than 70 years, the Colquitt Regional Medical Center has been serving the largely agricultural community of Colquitt County in the southwestern part of Georgia. As the area has grown, so too has the hospital, with the most recent expansion and renovation equipping the medical center to provide healthcare in a modern facility that occupies a place of pride and prominence within the community.

The project encompassed the addition of an emergency department with 24 exam rooms, a 20-bed same-day surgery unit, a 12-bay post-anesthesia care unit, six operating rooms along with central sterile and supply, two endoscopy rooms, a 12-bed intensive care unit, new patient elevators, as well as a completely reoriented and redesigned main entrance, lobby, and registration.

The complete relocation of the main entry and lobby gives the facility a new, high-profile identity within the community and, more importantly, it provides a simpler and more direct route for those approaching the hospital.

Streamlining the process even more, the main entry and ED entry coexist at one location, sharing an information desk. The two spaces remain visually connected, separated with a storefront glazing system and sliding glass doors, and work to simplify a visit to the hospital.

The design initiatives implemented focused on increasing privacy and comfort levels for both patients and visitors. The project attempts to make a statement about the next chapter in the life of the Colquitt Regional Medical Center, paying homage to its agricultural ties and the community it serves.
