Colour blind; COMMONS.

Schools Secretary Ed Balls raised smiles in the Commons yesterday after he failed to correctly name the colours of the rainbow.

Giving evidence to MPs on the Children, Schools and Families Committee, Mr Balls tried to describe the cover of a departmental paper which carried a picture of a rainbow. But MPs dissolved in laughter when he added: "Isn't it red, yellow, pink and green, purple and orange and blue?"

Mr Balls admitted he had taken his guide from the children's song I Can Sing a Rainbow which lists the colours in the wrong order - as well as adding pink.
