Colorado Dog Author is Making a Difference.
When this 4-year old mutt failed out of the therapy dog program for barking at sweet little old ladies, she found a new way to comfort others. Chipper became an author—or pawthor, if you will—and dedicated her book to helping children and animals. She has donated 100% of her net profits to a different charity each month, starting with the Colorado Puppy Rescue—as a thank you for saving her life.
“We are so delighted that the April book promotion to benefit our rescue puppies totaled $157.66. Chipper, we are proud to promote your book and life stories!” -Kim Fallert Ortega, Executive Director of the Colorado Puppy Rescue
Chipper donated her May profits to the Jessica Ridgeway Legacy Fund, which was created to honor the little girl (who was abducted from Chipper's neighborhood) by helping children and animals. Chipper also fostered two shelter puppies that were adopted by the Ridgeway family.
The four-legged “failure” used her June profits to throw a pizza party for her friends at Urban Peak Homeless Youth Shelter in Denver. Chipper shares a special bond with the troubled teens because she was once a homeless youth too. Her book profits from July went to iEmpathize, a Boulder-based nonprofit dedicated to putting an end to the child sex trade.
Chipper is hoping to sell enough books in October to buy Christmas gifts for the kids at the Children's Hospital in Denver. She made several friends in the pediatric hospice program when she was training to become a certified therapy dog, and they will always have a special place in her doggy heart.
“We are so pleased that Chipper will be donating all of her profits for November to help us train shelter dogs to provide comfort and assistance to our clients.” -Sharan Wilson, Executive Director of Freedom Service Dogs of America, Inc.
Chipper can hardly wait to donate her November profits to the Freedom Service Dogs of America, a nonprofit based in Englewood, Colorado, that rescues local shelter dogs and trains them to become service dogs for children and adults with disabilities. Currently 56 men and women are on the waiting list for their Operation Freedom program, which was developed to provide dogs to help returning war veterans deal with depression, PTSD, etc.
Chipper's December profits will go to the National Mill Dog Rescue, located in Colorado Springs, to help rescue dogs from the cruel life of puppy mills.

About the Pawthor:
Chipper, a 4-year-old female with soft brown eyes and golden fur, grew up as a stray mutt until she was saved by the Colorado Puppy Rescue in 2009. During her training to become a certified therapy dog, she delivered gifts to kids at the teen homeless shelter, wore pink butterfly wings for her friends in pediatric hospice, and made valentines for seniors at a nursing home. As destiny would have it, Chipper failed out of the therapy dog program when she reached her rebellious adolescent stage. (She shoplifted some treats from a pet store and started barking at sweet little old ladies.) The four-legged “failure” decided to write an autobiDOGraphy to prove that you don't have to be perfect to make a difference. Her story has inspired people in several countries to brighten their corner of the world. Chipper's hobbies include Squirrel Surveillance, helping her family foster shelter puppies, playing with her Squeaker the Squirrel toy, and sticking her butt up in the air.
