Blowey, a veterinarian in the UK, and Weaver (veterinary medicine, U. of Missouri) provide an illustrated guide for cattle practitioners, government and industry veterinarians, veterinary and agricultural students, and managers of cattle enterprises that identifies about 360 cattle diseases and disorders seen around the world. Organized by body system and including neonatal, congenital, infectious, and toxicological disorders and diseases, they focus on diagnosis and differential diagnosis based on visual examination, with little on treatment or management. This edition adds about 100 color illustrations (which include microscopic, histopathological, and cytological images), with added captions. It has expanded and new conditions like congenital vertebral malformation, erythropoietic porphyria, incarcerated umbilical hernia, bleeding calf syndrome, besnoitiosis, tail sequestrum, rib fracture, abomasal impaction, tuberculosis, cardiac tamponade from tire wire, digital dermatitis, crushed tail head, BVD/MD retinopathy, botulism, fatty liver syndrome, persistent preputial frenulum, ischemic teat necrosis, and jejunal hemorrhagic syndrome. Major revisions have been made to sections on foot-and-mouth disease, bluetongue, and bovine spongiform encephalopathy, with revised and expanded sections on management and differential diagnosis. Online access to a searchable text is included. There is no bibliography.
