Color and gloss control for interior auto parts.
Avariety of materials that are used in automotive interiors, such as leather, plastics, and fabrics, must evoke a sense of visual harmony. A uniform look is achieved by requiring suppliers to adhere to very tight tolerances for color and gloss specifications for the various components. Spectro-Guide Gloss-S was developed by BYK-Gardner especially for these quality-control requirements. The instrument measures color (45/0 or sphere) and 60[degrees] gloss simultaneously. For interior parts, a very low gloss appearance, which should be controlled within half a gloss unit, is usually requested. The calibration procedure, in conjunction with the use of special mat range standards, enabled an increase in the technical performance of the Spectro-Guide Gloss-S family of instruments. As a result, the repeatability of [+ or -]0.1 GU for 60[degrees]Gloss <10 gloss units can be guaranteed, which consequently allows the control of gloss within [+ or -] 0.3 gloss units.
