This atlas reviews the field of genetics, including its fundamentals, genetics in medicine, and selected aspects of genomics, using a visual approach that consists of color plates and brief chapters illustrating a concept and related facts, along with explanatory text for each plate on its opposite page. Topics emphasize the fundamentals and their role in the understanding the genetic bases of inherited diseases, but individual diseases are not described in detail. The introduction explains the definitions and development of genetics and genomics, and a chronology is also provided. Rewritten, reorganized, and updated, this edition has 19 new plates and includes an overview of human evolution, aging, the CRISPR (Cluster Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats)-Cas principle, genetic signaling pathways, genomic disorders and genome-wide association studies, cancer genomes, laminopathies, chromatin disorders, cohesinopathies, and other emerging topics. Some plates have been deleted. ([umlaut] Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR)
