Colliers bag Dan on loan.

NEWCASTLE United have loaned out promising Dan Taylor to Northern League outfit Ashington.

The 18-year-old, from Whitley Bay, netted in the recent second string match with Bolton Wanderers at the club's training centre.

Taylor, who played 45 minutes of the behind closed doors 3-2 win over Kilmarnock earlier this week, would have been without game time over the festive period.

But in a work experience loan deal for the Academy player he will now play in the Colliers' festive games Bedlington Terriers, Norton and Tow Law.

Newcastle will also looked to loan out more of their young players in the second half of the season. Phil Airey is likely to fit into that category.

The Amble-born striker, who got a goal in the Kilmarnock match, is out of contract in the summer and has been told he has plenty of hard work ahead of him if he is to win a new deal.

The player has not figured in the FA Premier Reserve League this season following an ill-fated move to Scottish Premier League side Hibernian.

But the Academy graduate returned in the friendly loss to Killie this week and scored in front of a watching Alan Pardew.

Meanwhile United's Under-18 side have had a date confirmed for the FA Youth Cup game with Watford.

The fourth round meeting takes place at St James' on January 19 with a 7pm start.

The Magpies saw off Darlington in the third round with a 3-0 win.
