Colleges spearhead research.

THE One for All Appeal's ne wlyappointed chairman, Professor Peter Toyne , last night spoke of his delight that colleges in Liverpool and Cheshire will be spearheading the r esearchinto ageing.

Professor Toyne is a former vice-chancellor of Liverpool John Moores Uni versity and chairman of Liverpool's successful Capital of Culture bid team.

He said: ``I am excited that here in the North West,and in particular at uni versities and higher education colleges in Liverpool and Chester, we are playing our part in the world-beating research that is helping to improve the quality of life for all. The North West region is acentr e of excellence for scientific and academic endeavour and this will be helped by the funds raised by Research into Ageing.''

The appeal is aiming to raise pounds 1m to fund six new research fellowships at uni versities in the region, inc luding the Uni versity of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores Uni versity, Chester College, Liverpool Hope Uni versity College and Edge Hill Uni versity College.

By encouraging research, the appeal aims to boost health and quality of life in the North West.
