College runner-up in national awards; KINGSTANDING.

STAFF and pupils at a Kingstanding school were celebrating this week after gaining recognition at a national awards ceremony.

Cardinal Wiseman Catholic Technology College was singled out for praise at The Independent Newspaper's National Careers' Awards in Bristol.

The school was joint runners up in the Working with Young People in Education award.

First place was awarded to the Connexions team from Kent and Medway for their project, 'Vocation Generation - a first for Guidance'.

A project for Year 10 pupils as part of the Castle Vale Business Project 'Exploring the World of Engineering and Manufacturing', was the catalyst for the special praise.

A spokesman for the school said: "Well done to our pupils and also Mrs Evans, Mr Heaps and Mr McGowan and all staff who supported the project and, of course, our business partners
