Bookends might seem an unlikely object to collect, but take a look at the gorgeous ends featured in Louis Kuritzky & Charles De Costa 's COLLECTOR'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BOOKENDS: IDENTIFICATION & VALUES (1574324330 $29.95) to catch a glimpse of some outstanding productions. Chapters are organized A-Z by subject: children, felines, female figures and each section features small clear color photos, object composition and rarity notes, prices, and dates. A 'must have' reference for any collecting bookends. B. J. Summers and Wayne Priddy's VALUE GUIDE TO GAS STATION MEMORABILIA (1574324403, $29.95) appears in its updated second edition to provide the latest values to signs, cans, maps and more from vintage gas station days. Bright medium-sized color photos throughout compliment chapters conveniently organized by memorabilia type--signs, containers, thermometers, even pumps and globes--to make for quick, easy browsing and reference. The weighty COLLECTOR'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF STANGL ARTWARE, LAMPS AND BIRDS IDENTIFICATION & VALUES by Robert C. Runge Jr. (1574324543, $29.95) offers a pleasing layout which lends to quick reference: color-coded sidebars of values accompany bright color photos and a guide which packs in Stangl company history and issues and reissues in an invaluable guide. Very strong recommendations for avid genre collectors, indeed. Volume One of Raycrafts' AMERICANA PRICE GUIDE (1574324810, $19.95) comes with a cd of details and packs every page with small but clear, bright color photos of collectibles still available at markets, antique shows, garage sales and more. History blends with a price guide--and the DVD of interviews with fellow collectors who share insights and tips is not to be missed, enhancing the entire product. Robert and Claudette Reed's POSTCARDS FOR THE HOLIDAYS, 2ND EDITION (1574324754, $24.95) arrived too late for more timely Christmas mention, but since holiday collecting is really a year-round occupation, it's not too late to mention the ongoing reference value of POSTCARDS FOR THE HOLIDAYS IDENTIFICATION & VALUE GUIDE, which appears in its 2nd updated edition. Pages come packed with color photos of seasonal cards organized by holiday along with current prices. The chapters each introduce with a history of manufacturers and approaches to further the educational teachings.
