Cole hopes Chelsea team-mate Lampard 'stays back' in club.

London, Feb 7 ( ANI ): Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole is hoping that his teammate Frank Lampard will be given a new deal by the English club.

Cole, who won his 100th cap in the clash at Wembley, said that he wanted Lampard to stay at the club and in England, the Daily Mail reports.

But Roy Hodgson, manager of the English national football team, has said that the final decision to stay in Chelsea lies with Lampard and the club, and he cannot interfere in that.

However, Hodgson also said that he hoped that Lampard will continue to play for England as he believed that 94-cap Lampard can be the next England player to reach 100 and wanted him to continue inspiring his country right through to the World Cup in Rio in 2014.

Hodgson also said that even if Lampard left Chelsea, he will remain close to England, if he stayed in Europe.

However, Hodgson added, if Lampard goes further away from England, it will be problematic for both the media and the England manager to follow him. ( ANI )
