Cocktail of books and glamour at this Spring Fever.

The six- day festival will end with lyricist and poet Gulzar's session

Last year, about 2,000 people visited the Spring Fever organised in the Capital.

By Srijani Ganguly in New Delhi HISTORICALLY, March 15 may be associated with the Ides of March but for the past seven years it has had another meaning in the literary circle.

For it is on this day that Spring Fever, Penguin Random House's six- day festival, which kicked off on Monday, is held in the Capital.

" Spring Fever has grown from strength to strength," says Hemali Sodhi, senior vice- president of marketing at Penguin Random House India.

" Last year, about 800- 1,000 people visited on weekdays and about 1,500 people visited on weekends. We are expecting that kind of numbers this time too, seeing the number of people who have already registered and the feedback we're getting. This year will be special since many speakers will be interacting for the first time with a Delhi audience." Of the authors signed on to the publishing house, and who have already published their popular books, actresses Twinkle Khanna and Shilpa Shetty will be interacting for the first with a Delhi crowd in the capacity of authors.

Bollywood will be well represented at the event with actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sonali Bendre and Emraan Hashmi also joining in the discussions. Siddiqui and Hashmi, who have both been signed on for non- fictional works, will also talk about their upcoming books.

" Two books which are a major highlight of our publishing plan this year will be previewed at the event as well," adds Sodhi.

" One is called Super 30 , which is Anand Kumar's book. He's going to talk about how he mentors the students who later go on to win seats at the IIT. Then there's a book by Srijan Pal Singh, which will be about the influence of APJ Abdul Kalam." The other highlights of Spring Fever will be talks by historian Ramchandra Guha, who will also preview his upcoming work Democrats and Dissenters, author Sunil Khilnani, former Pakistan's ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and others.

The eighth edition of Spring Fever will end with lyricist and poet Gulzar's session. Sodhi says, " He's a Spring Fever regular. We don't think of Spring Fever without him. This year we thought we'd get Gulzar saab to talk about the books that have influenced him.

So, he's going to end the festival with a session called ' Kitaabein'. That's a session for everyone. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want to listen to him." Spring Fever 2016 is being held at the amphitheatre of India Habitat Centre from March 15- 20.

The six- day festival will end with lyricist and poet Gulzar's session ( From top) Lyricist Gulzar and actors Sonali Bendre and Twinkle Khanna will take part in the eighth edition of Spring Fever.
