Cocked-and-locked.

My present 24/7 carry pistol is a DAO Taurus PT145 Millennium Compact in .45 ACP. I just bought a full-size Remington 1911. Am I safe to carry it with the hammer cocked, a round in the chamber and the safety on? I plan on using a left-hand Serpa Level II holster.

Patrick Sweeney replies: "As that is exactly the carry method that John Moses Browning designed it for, I'd say you're set there. However, JMB could not design personal skill into his pistol, so along with an ambidextrous safety (you being left-handed and all), you should spend some quality time doing draw and dry-fire practice at home in the basement. That way your thumb knows exactly what to do if and when you need your Remington."
