Coating systems.

This developer of rubber-to-metal bonding adhesives for the automotive and industrial markets has introduced fluid and ozone resistant coatings for rubber. Chemlok high performance coatings (HPC) were developed to improve upon the oil and ozone resistance of various elastomer materials used in automotive, industrial, marine, off-highway/agriculture, aerospace/aircraft and oil drilling type applications. Although the coatings enable the use of less expensive elastomers, they yield similar fluid and ozone resistance as compared to their more expensive elastomeric counterparts, according to the company. Said to combine heat resistance, environmental protection, adhesion to both rubber and metal, as well as the flexibility to withstand dynamic motions, the coatings cure at room temperature and are aesthetically appealing, according to the manufacturer. Further, they are said to protect a natural rubber substrate from ozone and from moderate exposure to various petroleum oils and fuels, improve ozone resistance of the elastomers and comply with the non-lead requirements in the European End of Life Vehicle Directive.
