Coastguard campaign to continue.
THE fight to keep coastguard stations open is set to continue - with campaigners vowing to keep piling pressure on the Government. The coalition in Westminster has announced a "partial climbdown" in its plans to close 10 of 18 coastguard stations as the Maritime and Coastguard Agency aims to save pounds 7.5m a year. The Transport Select Committee is set to take more evidence at Westminster from various coastguards, and a report on the changes is due in around a month.
The proposals as they stand would mean Holyhead and Milford Haven coastguard stations closing and Swansea being downgraded to just a day watch station.
