Coach Vicente part ways with Life Savers.
THE off-season remained active as Philippine Superliga (PSL) teams continued to tinker with their bench with Francis Vicente and Generika-Ayala parting ways before 2017 ended.
Vicente revealed that he and Generika-Ayala management had a mutual agreement for him to leave the Life Savers on New Year's Eve.
Vicente refused to give details about their meeting but the women's national team head coach said it was a blessing in disguise as he could focus solidly on University of the East's (UE) campaign in Season 80 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women's volleyball tournament that starts next month.
'I see this development as a blessing in disguise. At least I can now move on and focus on UE,' Vicente said. 'And for the national team as well-if [Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. acting president] Mr. [Peter] Cayco calls me back.'
Generika-Ayala will announce its new coach before the season-opening Grand Prix in February.
Cignal let go of George Pascua, who transferred to Sta. Lucia, while Foton did not renew Serbian Moro Branislav's contract and signed former three-time Premier Volleyball League champion Pocari Sweat Head Coach Rommel Abella. Branislav transferred to Cocolife.
University of Santo Tomas standout Pamela Lastimosa, meanwhile, will stay with Sta. Lucia for another year.
'First on our list of returning players for the coming year is outside hitter Pamela Lastimosa,' the Lady Realtors official twitter confirmed to end the speculations of Lastimosa's transfer to Cocolife. 'The spiker has already committed to play anew for the Lady Realtors for another 12 months.'
