Clubs prepare to embark on bid for Cup glory.

Byline: David Prentice

BARELY 12 weeks after Yaya Toure's goal gave Manchester City their first trophy for 35 years in the Cup Final at Wembley, the 131st FA Cup competition kicks-off again next month. And six local clubs will be among the 204 ties playing the extra preliminary round on August 20 playing for prize money of pounds 750.

Formby were the first Mersey outfit out of the drum, handed a home draw at Altcar Road against Cheshire club Alsager Town, and with the incentive of further home ties against Lancaster City in the preliminary round and if successful another home draw in the first qualifying round on September 17.

Runcorn Town are at home in the extra preliminary round against Brighouse Town, St Helens Town will entertain North West Counties Premier Division rivals Atherton LR, AFC Liverpool are at home in all-Premier Division match-up with Runcorn Linnets and Premier Division Bootle entertain First Division Wigan Robin Park with a possible plum first qualifying round draw at last season's FA Cup giant-killers FC United of Manchester lying in wait further down the line.
