Cloud9 IDE integrates Red Hat OpenShift Online.

Open source solutions provider Red Hat, has announced that Cloud9 IDE has built its online development environment with Red Hat's OpenShift Online hosted Platform-as-a-Service (PS) solution. By integrating OpenShift Online into its original online development environment, Cloud9 IDE is able to deliver more flexibility, security and ease of use to developers.

"Once we really understood what OpenShift was capable of

from a technical point of view, we realised we could integrate it to support a

better workflow for our users to easily build apps. The combination of Red

Hat's leadership in PS and our capabilities at Cloud9 IDE offer developers an

easy, flexible and efficient way to build and deploy applications. Our platform

wouldn't be where it is today without OpenShift Online," said Ruben Daniels,

CEO and founder, Cloud9 IDE.

Cloud9 IDE is an online development environment for

Javascript and Node.js applications as well as HTML, CSS, PHP, Java, Ruby and

23 other languages. It is designed for developers looking for a modern and

secure IDE that strives to work efficiently by having their code accessible

online from anywhere via Cloud9 IDE workspaces.

One of the many reasons Cloud9 IDE selected OpenShift Online

was for the security provided through the PS solution's inclusion of Red Hat

Enterprise Linux. By leveraging OpenShift Online containers, Cloud9 IDE

workspaces provide developers with a single online place to store, run and

configure their files, all while offering a full terminal and full shell access

into the container. While inside a workspace, a user can access Cloud9 IDE and

complete the same functions that can be done on a desktop or laptop machine. In

addition to security, the switch to OpenShift Online is designed to provide a

cost-efficiency benefit as it offers a multi-tenant model where multiple

workspaces run on the same virtual machine.

"We are excited to collaborate with Cloud9 IDE so more users

and developers can experience the full range of programming languages and

runtime ecosystems OpenShift has to offer, along with the inherent flexibility

and ease of use of the platform. We look forward to continuing to enable more

developers to easily utilize PS platforms like OpenShift Online for their

applications," said Ashesh Badani, general manager, Cloud Business Unit and

OpenShift, Red Hat

The combination of Cloud9 IDE and OpenShift Online also

allows users to run executables, including binary models, Node.js support,

Ruby, PHP and C++ applications. This flexibility has allowed many to benefit

from using Cloud9 IDE in their infrastructure, including startups, independent

software vendors and freelance developers. Working with a variety of users has

allowed Cloud9 IDE to explore the next phase of offerings within a private
