Close call for TV top honours.

The National Television Awards 2012 STV, Wednesday, 7.30pm Now in their 17th year, the NTAs are bigger and better than ever before, with some seriously close-run categories. The X Factor has triumphed several times for the Talent Show trophy, but Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing on Ice and Britain's Got Talent will be giving it a run for its money this time.

The mighty Doctor Who and Downton Abbey do battle against each other, as well as Waterloo Road and Merlin in the Drama category.

However, lips are tight about who will follow in the footsteps of David Jason, David Attenborough and Bruce Forsyth as a recipient of the Special Recognition Award. Dermot O'Leary hosts.
