Clock in for a special castle tour.

VISITORS to Cardiff Castle are now able to get a unique insight into its renowned Clock Tower, as specialist tours are launched for the first time.

Tourists can observe the outstanding decor of the winter smoking room and bachelor bedroom, as well as take the 101-step climb up a spiral staircase to view the working mechanism of the Bell Chamber.

The tower, which was completed for bachelor Lord Bute, also includes the summer smoking room which provides spectacular views of the Welsh capital - something Lord Bute was "very pleased with".

After completion in 1874, the seven-floor tower was Cardiff's tallest building throughout the Victorian age, standing more than 40 metres tall.

The tours will run all and every weekend from now until the end of September.
